Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Funeral Bids — for families and funeral homes.

For Families
How does Funeral Bids work?
You post your service request for free — describing the type of arrangements you need, where services will take place, and your timeline. Funeral homes in your area then submit competitive, itemized quotes for your review. You compare them side by side and accept the one that's right for your family. There's no obligation to accept any quote.
Is this service free for families?
Yes, completely. Families never pay Funeral Bids anything. Posting a request is free, reviewing quotes is free, and accepting a quote is free. Funeral homes pay a fee when you choose them — not you.
Do I have to choose the lowest quote?
Not at all. Price is one factor, but you should choose the funeral home that's the best fit for your family — based on price, reputation, location, photos, or how they present themselves. You're in complete control of who you choose.
How many quotes will I receive?
There's no fixed number — it depends on how many funeral homes are active in your area. Each funeral home that quotes can revise their quote up to 2 additional times (3 submissions total per funeral home), so the prices you see may improve as they compete for your business.
Is the price I accept final?
The accepted price applies to the services exactly as you described in your request. If you add, remove, or change services once you speak with the funeral home, the price may be adjusted accordingly. This is standard practice — funeral homes are required to honor the price for the specific services you requested.
What if the funeral home doesn't honor the price?
If a funeral home doesn't honor the price they agreed to for the services as originally requested, contact us immediately at support@funeralbids.com or (888) 874-3304. We take this seriously and will intervene on your behalf.
What legal rights do I have when planning a funeral?
The FTC Funeral Rule gives you important protections. Funeral homes must provide itemized pricing in writing, cannot require you to purchase package deals, and must disclose all charges upfront. You are not required to buy any item you don't want. You also have the right to compare prices from multiple funeral homes — which is exactly what Funeral Bids makes easy.
Can I post a request if I'm pre-planning, not in immediate need?
Yes. Funeral Bids works for families who are pre-planning ahead of time, expecting a loss, or dealing with an immediate need. When posting your request, simply select the timeline that applies to your situation — funeral homes will respond accordingly.
How quickly will I hear from a funeral home after accepting a quote?
Funeral homes are expected to reach out within 24 hours of your acceptance. If you haven't heard from them by then, you'll receive a reminder notification. You can also reach out directly to the funeral home using the contact information provided in your dashboard after acceptance.
Can I post multiple requests — for example, for a loved one and for myself?
Yes. Your account supports multiple simultaneous requests, so you can manage arrangements for a loved one while also pre-planning your own — completely independently, with separate quotes for each.
Is my personal information kept private?
Yes. Funeral homes can see your service request details — what you need, your location, and your timeline — but your name and contact information are only revealed to the funeral home you choose to accept. Funeral homes who submit quotes but aren't selected never see your personal contact details.
Can I compare quotes side by side?
Yes. Your dashboard has a Compare feature built for exactly this — select any of the quotes you've received and view them side by side, line item by line item, instead of trying to hold several browser tabs or paper quotes in your head at once.
For Funeral Homes
How does Funeral Bids work for funeral homes?
Once approved, you'll see live family service requests in your area. Each request includes the full service details — type of arrangement, location, timeline, and specific items requested. You submit an itemized quote for free. If the family accepts your quote, that's your first client — completely free. After your first accepted quote, you choose a plan to keep quoting.
What does it cost to join?
Signing up is free. Quoting is free. Requoting is free. Your first accepted quote is completely free — no card required until after your first quote is accepted. After that, you choose between Basic ($499 per accepted quote, no monthly fee) or Premium ($150/month, $0 per accepted quote). You can change or cancel your plan at any time.
Which pricing plan should I choose — Basic or Premium?
It depends on how predictable your volume is. If you only pick up families occasionally and don't want any monthly commitment, Basic ($499 per accepted quote, no monthly fee) means you only ever pay when a quote is actually accepted. If you expect to pick up even one family a month reliably, Premium ($150/month, $0 per accepted quote) works out cheaper overall, since $150 is less than a single $499 per-quote charge. You can switch between plans at any time as your volume changes — there's no lock-in.
Do I need to enter a credit card to start quoting?
No. You can sign up, get approved, browse live requests, and submit quotes without ever entering a card. A card is only required after your first accepted quote, when you choose a plan to continue quoting.
How many times can I quote a request?
You can submit an initial quote and then revise it up to 2 additional times per request — 3 total. All quoting and requoting is always free, regardless of your plan.
What information do I see before I quote?
You see the full service request — type of arrangement (burial, cremation, etc.), specific line items the family needs, city and service radius, timeline/urgency, cemetery situation, any family notes, and a full narrative walkthrough of their request. You never see the family's name or contact information until after they accept your quote.
How does the approval process work?
After you complete your profile, your account is reviewed by the Funeral Bids team before you gain access to live requests. We verify that your funeral home is legitimate and licensed. Not every applicant is approved — this ensures the funeral homes on our platform are ones families can trust.
Am I competing against other funeral homes on price alone?
No. Families can see your itemized quote, your business profile, facility photos, your GPL, years in business, ownership type, and any other details you've added. A family may choose a higher quote because they prefer your facility, your experience, or how you've presented your business. Price matters, but it's not the only factor.
What happens if a family accepts my quote but then changes what they want?
Your accepted price applies to the services exactly as the family described in their request. If they add, remove, or change services after accepting, you may adjust the price to reflect those changes — and you're expected to clearly communicate that to the family. Both sides agree to this in the Terms of Service at signup.
Can I cancel my plan at any time?
Yes. There are no contracts. You can cancel or change your plan at any time from your profile page. Your access continues through the end of your current billing period.
What is Auto Quote?
Auto Quote is a separate, optional $50/month subscription — no Basic or Premium plan required, and you can use it even before your first accepted quote. Once turned on, it instantly sends a quote the moment a matching request is posted in your area, using your saved price list. Adjustments can happen automatically too, or you can step in and adjust your quote manually whenever you'd rather handle a request yourself.
